40 Years of SHRY – Celebrating Homeopathy in Finland

2026 marks the 40th anniversary of the Finnish Association of Homeopaths (SHRY). To celebrate this important milestone, SHRY held its 40th anniversary celebration on 22 August 2026 at Kalastajatorppa in Helsinki.

The celebration was held together with the Nordic Homeopathic Association (PHY), which is also marking its 30th anniversary this year. While the two organisations have their own histories and roles, the shared celebration provided a wonderful opportunity for colleagues to come together and mark these significant milestones.

The anniversary brought together homeopaths from different generations. It was a valuable opportunity to meet colleagues, share experiences, remember the past and look towards the future. The day also highlighted the importance of community: although the work of a homeopath is often independent, we are not alone.

A Brief History of Homeopathy in Finland

Homeopathy came to Finland, particularly to the Ostrobothnia region, in small numbers in the late 1800:s and became more established from the 1980s onwards. Professional training for homeopaths began towards the end of that decade.

The Finnish Association of Homeopaths (SHRY) was founded in 1986. Since joining the European Central Council of Homeopaths (ECCH), SHRY has aligned its membership criteria with the ECCH’s educational standards. SHRY also supports and follows its members’ continuing professional development.

Over the decades, generations of Finnish homeopaths have built on Samuel Hahnemann’s work and his pioneering understanding of homeopathy, carrying this tradition forward in Finland.

International collaboration through organisations such as the ECCH and the ICH connects homeopaths across borders and strengthens our shared professional community.

Celebrating the Past – Looking Towards the Future

The celebration offered an opportunity to share experiences, celebrate our common journey and look towards the future.

Our special guests were internationally renowned homeopaths and teachers Camilla and Jeremy Sherr, known for their work with Homeopathy for Health in Africa and the Dynamis School for Advanced Homeopathic Studies. We also heard an inspiring lecture by Satu Jämsä on homeopathic research.

During the celebration, Irmeli Lehtioksa, SHRY’s Honorary Chair and ECCH representative from 1999 to 2002, shared information about a history book currently in preparation. The book will document the history of homeopathy in Finland and the 40-year journey of the Finnish Association of Homeopaths.

SHRY´s current international representative Nina Wikström shared the ICH’s congratulations to SHRY during the celebration.

We were also delighted to have our valued collaborator, PUR Hyvinvointikauppa, with us at the celebration.

The anniversary celebration reminded us of the importance of coming together, sharing experiences, reflecting on the journey so far and strengthening our professional community as we look towards the future.
